Overview

AIR's vision is that research-based problem solving can improve the lives of all people. We are seeking a Research Associate (K-12 Education) to join our Professional Services team. The Research Associate (K-12 Education) will work on a variety of contrants and grants providing support for various research projects. For this position, we are seeking an individual with experience in K-12 education and strong qualitative research skills. This position will be based in our Austin, TX office.

Responsibilities

  • Lead site visits to K-12 schools, including conducting focus groups, interviews, and observations
  • Analyze qualitative research data using NVivo and contribute to the reporting and interpretation of findings
  • Develop and administer online surveys
  • Develop spreadsheets and data bases to support project activities
  • Conduct literature reviews to support projects and proposals
  • Assist staff in the review, identification and development of scholarly information describing research findings
  • Create graphs, tables and other data visualization elements using Excel, R, or other programs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and 3+ years of work experience or master's degree in education, psychology, sociology, public policy or other social science related field
  • Experience conducting research in a K-12 education setting
  • Experience conducting in-person interviews and focus groups (experience with students a plus)
  • Experience coding qualitative data using NVivo
  • Strong writing and oral communication skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite or the equivalent (word processing, spreadsheets, presentation software)
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team
  • Some statistics skills are a plus
