Your Opportunity
The Financial Crimes Risk Management (“FCRM”) team within Corporate Risk Management oversees the Conduct Risk Management Program. FCRM’s goals are to safeguard the firm’s assets and make Charles Schwab the most trusted leader in the financial industry. Conduct Risk Management is an enterprise-wide program responsible for the implementation, oversight, and enhancement of the second line of defense functions related to conduct risk. These functions include the Corporate Responsibility Program, Internal Surveillance, Internal Investigations, Anti-Bribery and Corruption, Conduct-related Complaints, the Ombudsperson/Whistleblower anonymous reporting program, and other functions involving employee conduct.
Our teams help to develop, maintain, and ensure adherence to the Charles Schwab Corporation Code of Business Conduct and Ethics and other conduct-related policies and procedures.
We have an opening for a Managing Director position to be based in Westlake, TX; Denver, CO; Austin, TX; Phoenix, AZ; or Chicago, IL.
What you’re good at
The Managing Director – Conduct Risk Management will play a critical role in leading a team to drive and support execution of Conduct Risk Management’s long-term strategy and strategic initiatives. The role reports to the Vice President (“VP”) of Conduct Risk Management and will assist the VP and the Corporate Responsibility Officer in overseeing an enterprise-wide governance and program framework.
A successful candidate must possess strong critical thinking, collaboration and analytical skills, have familiarity with relevant industry trends, and be able to appropriately use a variety of resources to research and identify solutions. The candidate selected for the position will be expected to:
- Play a lead role in supporting the implementation of critical firm-wide strategic initiatives related to the Conduct Risk Management program.
- Remain current on applicable laws and regulations, government and industry trends, and conduct risk management and ethics best practices.
- Develop and enhance conduct-related policies, procedures, training, metrics, and reporting.
- Ensure issues are appropriately escalated and adequate corrective action plans are established and tracked.
- Represent the team as a source of expertise across the firm.
- Motivate, lead and develop a team with varied strengths responsible for performing and executing on our organization’s purpose and mission.
- Create a work environment that promotes employee engagement by setting clear expectations and consistently providing feedback, coaching and recognition that helps employees maintain a high level of performance.
- Partner across FCRM, Corporate Risk Management, the business, and with industry peers to provide guidance and resources necessary for the team to execute on an ongoing in-depth understanding of Conduct Risk behavior and trends.
- Work collaboratively with key stakeholders in Compliance, Legal, and Human Resources/Employee Relations and within Corporate Risk Management to identify and address potential conduct-risk concerns.
- Partner with internal business partners for reporting on significant matters to the Firm’s internal and external stakeholders, including the appropriate management and Board committees.
- Work with business partners in the 1st line of defense, 2nd line of defense, and 3rd line of defense to identify control enhancements.
What you have
- Solid understanding of conduct risk management and how associated processes relate to FCRM’s goals in protecting the firm.
- Experience investigating or strong understanding of internal employee conduct risks, ethics issues and behaviors across all facets of an enterprise.
- Experience in corporate governance and risk management from an enterprise- wide perspective.
- Understanding of the regulatory environment and rules and regulations applicable to a diversified financial services firm, including strong knowledge of conduct-related laws and regulations.
- Experience synthesizing large sets of data into an aggregated firm-wide view for the purposes of reporting trends, metrics and significant issues.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills with a demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with all levels of an organization.
- Ability to effectively and quickly build relationships and establish trust, respect, competence and confidence with internal and external business partners.
- Experience consulting with all levels of management and working collaboratively with various groups with potentially disparate objectives.
- Ability to be flexible, use sound judgment, solve problems, work under pressure, and meet tight deadlines.
- Positive attitude, enthusiasm, maturity, professionalism and strong work ethic with high level of integrity and ethics.
- Bachelor’s degree.
- 10+ years of relevant experience.
