Job Role:

We are seeking talented technical students pursuing a bachelor’s, master’s, or PhD degree to intern with our Virtual Machine Monitor (VMM) group.
This is a core R&D kernel development internship within the Virtual Machine Monitor group. This team is responsible for the CPU virtualization technology in VMware products. You will have the opportunity to work with bleeding-edge CPU technology, VT-x/AMD-V, interrupt virtualization, memory virtualization/management, and virtualization of other forms of computing technologies and accelerators.

We are looking for a strong software developer who is eager to contribute to many technology areas within VMware's vSphere organization in order to deliver cutting-edge VMM technology. You will work with a mentor in the virtual machine monitor team and have day-to-day software development responsibilities (primarily in C).

As an intern on the VM Monitor team:

• You will learn and apply new technologies, best design practices and usability patterns
• You get to contribute to end-to-end system architecture, working alongside talented back-end engineers
• You will have a great opportunity to work with bleeding edge CPU technology, VT-x/AMD-V, interrupt virtualization, memory virtualization/management, and dynamic code instrumentation.

Required Skills :

• Pursuing a BS, MS, or PhD in CS or equivalent required, MS and MS in CS or equivalent preferred
• Experienced in Java and JavaScript languages
• Strong programming skills in C
• Solid understanding of processor micro-architecture
• Assembly on any Instruction Set Architecture (ISA)
• Must have strong analytical, diagnostic, and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work in a team environment
• Good communication skills

Preferred skills:

• Experienced participating in agile development is a plus
• Experience in virtualization
• Strong communication and ability to working a teamwork driven environment
• Previous internship experience is a plus
