Upstart is a leading marketplace lender pioneering the use of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) in consumer lending. In addition to our direct-to-consumer lending platform, Upstart offers the Powered by Upstart (PBU) software-as-a-service lending platform to banks and credit unions to operate their own lending programs utilizing our technology. To date, Upstart has originated more than $5B in loans and is on track for another year of significant growth in 2020.

The Capital Markets team oversees a key strategic function within Upstart to develop and execute our funding and liquidity plans via credit facilities, loan sales and capital market transactions. We are seeking a smart and driven self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced, dynamic environment to join our Capital Markets team. As a Capital Markets Analyst, you will work closely with our internal and external partners to support the execution of Upstart’s capital markets activities. The role will be located in Upstart’s San Mateo, CA, headquarters and reports directly to the corporate Treasurer.

Responsibilities:

• Build and model analysis to facilitate capital market activities (asset-backed securities, structured-pass through certificates, loan sales, credit facilities, etc.)
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders (Risk Management, Investor Services, Finance, Data Science, Legal) to better understand Upstart’s business and to support various funding and liquidity initiatives
• Assist in maintenance of existing and development of new external relationships (banks, rating agencies, investors) through data analysis, presentations, due diligence and other requests as needed

Requirements:

• BA/BS in business, finance, economics or other technical/quantitative discipline
• Enjoys working in a dynamic and fast-paced and environment; organized and able to juggle multiple projects
• Strong analytical skills with keen attention to detail
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Proficiency in SQL, Excel and other quantitative applications preferred
• 1-2 years of capital markets or relevant experience is a plus
