VISUALS PRODUCER – MADRID

Reuters is looking for a visuals news journalist to join the team in our exciting, fast-paced Iberia operation in Madrid. You will help deliver news coverage to more than 1,000 broadcasters and hundreds of digital outlets around the world. You will have a strong ability to remain focused and organised under pressure and a passion for working with a high-performance team of video and photo journalists. Based in our Madrid newsroom, you will work closely with editors and crews in Spain and Portugal to get our footage and pictures out to clients quickly and accurately. You should be excited about international news and have an ability to work to tight deadlines. You should also be able to react to breaking news and provide story ideas.

This is a full-time role that demands flexibility to work long hours and some weekends and will report to the Iberia Chief of Television and Pictures.

As our trusted Visuals Producer you will:

  • Be part of the news gathering team that coordinates and delivers edited and live content from across Iberia at speed
  • Have wide responsibility over our output and ensuring our scripts are accurate and impartial
  • Have the confidence and sharp decision-making skills needed to deputise occasionally for the Chief Visuals Producer Iberia
  • Help coordinate a team of visuals journalists across the region
  • Have a keen eye for visual storytelling and the ability to edit footage within tight deadlines
  • Respond quickly to breaking news, whilst prioritizing responsibilities, monitoring social media and sourcing third-party content
  • Pitch story ideas which also translate well for broadcast and digital platforms
  • Work as part of a multimedia team that covers events, starting from the planning phase through to field work
  • Help create and maintain visual planning entries
  • Coordinate between Visuals and Text teams

You should apply if you have:

  • At least 3-5 years’ experience in professional journalism in a broadcast, digital newsroom or agency environment
  • Excellent news judgement and a deep understanding of the Iberia region. Willingness to get involved in sports coverage is a must.
  • A passion for news coverage and how clients use it
  • Strong video editing and script writing skills, and a willingness to learn about pictures editing
  • An interest in digital reporting and live video
  • The ability to remain calm under pressure
  • The ability to multi-task and adapt to changing priorities
  • The ability to meet deadlines
  • A clear understanding of the news video needs of major broadcasters and digital clients
  • A thorough understanding of the latest digital visual technologies for filming, editing, transmitting and sharing.
  • A track record of being a team player
  • A willingness to participate in field coverage of riots and civil disturbance
  • A willingness to travel on assignment at a short notice
  • Excellent English – written and oral
  • Excellent Spanish – written and oral (fluency in any major global language an advantage)
