The Senior Manager of Compliance Investigations leads Etsy’s Compliance Investigations team, comprised of financial crimes compliance specialists within the broader Risk Operations organization that conduct compliance investigations, including anti-money laundering customer due diligence and suspicious activity reviews. This team fulfills a critical compliance risk management function and plays a meaningful role in helping to keep Etsy and our community safe. We are seeking a seasoned compliance investigations manager who thrives in driving structure in ambiguous spaces, working in fast paced environments and demonstrating strong critical thinking skills to define solutions to new problem sets. The successful candidate will demonstrate a proven ability to balance critical thinking with detailed execution to help define the tools, roadmaps, and processes to enable the Compliance Investigations team to conduct in-depth due diligence reviews and forensic investigations. This role reports to the Director of Risk and Compliance and is based in our Dublin, Ireland office.

About the Role

    • Lead and coordinate all aspects of the operations of Etsy’s Compliance Investigation team, including the end-to-end Suspicious Transaction Report (STR) review and filing process and enhanced due diligence review process
    • Accountable for overseeing anti-money laundering investigations and ensuring that cases are opened and actioned within the required timeframe
    • Serve as an escalation point for resolving investigations and recommending customer relationship retention or termination, as required
    • Manage, educate and mentor investigators, developing their investigative skills to enable them to conduct increasingly complex investigations
    • Advise Trust & Safety leadership of new or amended AML laws, regulations, and industry guidance related to AML risk mitigation methodologies
    • Develop and update investigatory procedures to ensure alignment with regulatory expectations and industry standards
    • Establish and monitor relevant Key Performance Indicators and Key Risk Indicators to assess individual and group performance, to track against internal goals, and provide performance data to senior management
    • Support senior management in managing and responding to regulatory requests
    • Ensure that all investigatory activities are supported by adequate governance and controls
    • Cultivate an environment of continuous improvement to drive productivity and efficiency

About You

    • Proven leadership experience managing operational teams responsible for customer due diligence and/or suspicious activity review and filing processes
    • Possess deep subject matter expertise in anti-money laundering and an ability to translate and apply payments-related compliance obligations to a marketplace business model
    • Demonstrated success in expanding operational efficiency and effectiveness through process improvements, technology deployment and other mechanisms
    • Easily adapt to new situations and systems. You are comfortable with technology and have strong internet research skills
    • Have sound judgment, logical critical thinking skills, and the ability to operate confidently in ambiguous and unfamiliar situations
    • Passionate about developing others and bringing out the best in your team
    • Thoughtful, collaborative leader with excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to influence others
    • Comfortable providing and receiving feedback
    • Experience handling sensitive topics with discretion and composure
    • Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (ACAMS) / Certified AML and Fraud Professional (CAFP) is a plus
