Job Description

This Senior Solutions Architect role will assist in the execution of the vision, strategic direction, and initiative roadmap for data and information architecture to support the Corporate Systems sub-division. Areas of focus would be in the Data Science and AI/ML areas, as well as the OGC (legal and compliance) data domain. Key activities for this role would include the definition of the reference and implementation data architectures for strategic, business technology projects. Must be able to persuade and influence Business and Information Technology (IT) leaders on the architectural direction.

Duties and Responsibilities for Senior Solutions Architect

1. Provides the architectural leadership in shaping strategic, business technology programs, with an emphasis on application and data architecture. Utilizes domain knowledge and application portfolio knowledge to play a key role in defining the future state of large, business technology programs.

2. Utilizes broad and deep understanding of the competitive landscape and corporate and business unit strategies to provide context for architectural decision making.

3. Within area of responsibility, continuously pursues advanced knowledge of business technology solutions and maintains understanding of applicable technologies, tools, and services.

4. Establishes working relationships with appropriate business technology solution providers (CTO, AWS, IBM, Adobe, Microsoft, etc.) and internal business partners like IIG, RIG, FAS, OGC etc.

5. Leverages knowledge capital available through subscription research services that target business technology solutions (e.g., Forrester on Digital Business, Cutter on investment management, etc.).

6. Leverages the Internet and trade periodicals that focus on the contemporary, competitive, business technology issues within the financial industry.

7. Attends financial industry conferences and engages in associated activities (e.g., conducting presentations, leading workshops, etc.).

8. Defines reference and implementation application and data architectures.

9. Produces technology roadmaps in support of SI’s application portfolio vision and strategy.

10. Monitors application implementation activity to ensure architecture and data design principles are upheld.

11. Ensures application implementation solutions support the business objectives (asset gathering, cost optimization, client loyalty improvement), as appropriate.

12. Participates in governance team discussions and provides a strong voice on critical decisions.

13. Establishes relationships with senior IT and Business leaders for the purpose of advancing proposed application architecture solutions.

14. Coaches and mentors more junior solution architects.

15. Participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned.

Specific Job Details for Cloud Data Architect Focus:

1. Creates the data architecture strategy to provide the data roadmap for Corporate systems in the cloud. Primary areas of focus will be in CAI to enable the data for AI/ML and Data Science and the OGC area to enable data for legal and compliance systems.

2. Collaborates and integrates data strategies across partner lines of business.

3. Architects a business-consumable, Information Data Layer.

4. Analyzes trends, anticipates business needs of, and recommends a strategy for Multi Cloud Reporting, Analytics, and Data Science in the context of data related technologies.

5. Familiarity with data related strategies and architecture, including offensive strategies (data prep/ transformation, enrichment, data analytic, modeling, visualization, etc.) and defensive strategies (data ingestion, operationalization/ standardization, access, storage, data right sourcing, etc.)

6. Identifies, monitors, and recommends sources of vendor data.

7. Influence Enterprise Metadata and Data Governance program; ensures needs of Analytics and Data Science are met.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent combination of training and experience. Graduate degree preferred.
  • Minimum eight years relevant work experience.
  • 5+ years of experience as a data architect and have delivered solutions for data movement, data obfuscation (data masking), record retention (Deletion and Archival), data infrastructure/security, operational data stores (ODS), enterprise data warehouses, data lakes and reporting/analytics
  • 5-7 years of experience in Big Data technologies: Kafka, Spark, Python, Hadoop, MapReduce, Hive, Oozie, Presto, MongoDB,
  • Experience with implementing RESTful services
  • At least 5 years of experience in AWS Cloud databases and storage solutions such as DynamoDB, RDS, Redshift, DocumentDB, S3, EBS, and EFS.
  • Experience with Lambda, CloudFormation, and CloudWatch.
  • Familiarity with Splunk and Tableau
  • Familiarity and preferably experience with container technology and container-based architecture
  • At least 5 years of experience in building data pipelines in AWS for data ingestion architecture for batch and real time data streaming
  • Hands on experience with AWS services such as Athena, Glue, and EMR
  • Proficiency with Graph and NoSQL databases
  • Solid understanding of CI/CD
  • Hands on experience in leading large-scale global databases, Big Data and Analytics projects
  • Hands on experience in sizing, performance tuning, cost optimization and of cloud compute resources and query optimization of databases.
  • Deep understanding of data storage architecture such as data partitioning, indexing, and compaction.
  • Understanding of data ingestion, processing, feature engineering needs for machine learning
  • Strong Communication and Presentation skills
  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional Certification. Specialty Certification in Big Data (ideal)
