Job Description

Who is Bird At Bird, we’re on a mission to make cities more livable by reducing traffic and carbon emissions with an affordable, convenient, and eco-friendly transportation option. We planted roots in Los Angeles, California. Now, our fleet of electric scooters is available to riders in cities around the world for short trips or the “last mile” of their journey. In our first year, Bird launched in over 100 cities and provided over 10 million rides. And we’re only just getting started. As an Employee Relations Manager, you will work in close partnership with our HR Business Partners Partners and Legal team to conduct and advise on investigations in the interest of building and preserving a culture of inclusivity. You will play a significant role in a variety of employee relations issues, including developing and operationalizing policy and procedure, addressing workplace concerns, and supporting performance management. Your knowledge of employment law, our own policies, and Bird’s cultural values will help you guide issues to the optimal outcome.

What You'll Do:

    • Manage end-to-end internal investigations and case management
    • Deliver thoughtful recommendations to People and Places and business leaders
    • Hands on handling of investigations involving moderate to complex risk
    • Advise the development and execution of core policies and procedures
    • Discretely navigate complex employee relations issues with an empathetic, solution-oriented approach
    • Architect tools to ensure a consistent, fair, and inclusive approach to internal employee issues
    • Analyze problems and deliver solutions where precedent may not exist (and build roadmaps where they don’t yet exist)
    • Track investigation, disciplinary, and termination/off-boarding data for trends analysis and create appropriate reporting for company leadership
    • Build strong relationships with internal counsel, Talent leaders, and business leaders
    • Act as a trusted resource who can provide advice and guidance
    • Flex seamlessly between Lead and Individual Contributor on multiple product and project teams, adding ‘off-title’ value in a thoughtful, prioritized way
    • Recognize education gaps and lead development and execution of key employee trainings (including compliance, interviewing, anti-harassment, diversity & inclusion, etc.)
    • Provide support in rolling out People and Places policy and products
    • Manage and support Associate Employee Relations function including providing guidance, training and mentorship
    • Ongoing monitoring trends and changes to employment law
    • Make recommendations for implementation to maintain company compliance

What You'll Need:

    • BA/BS degree or equivalent practical experience – graduate degrees (MBA, JD, MHRM) certainly don’t hurt
    • 4+ years of Employee Relations, HR Business Partner, or Generalist experience directly supporting senior HR or business leaders, ideally at high-growth companies
    • Experience handling sensitive and confidential information in a thoughtful way
    • Experience leading end-to-end employee relations investigations - bonus points for having developed process where none existed
    • Strong knowledge of relevant Federal and CA employment laws/regulations
    • Demonstrated process excellence - both as a user, and as a builder
    • Demonstrated ability to innovate and influence with and without positional authority
    • Demonstrated ability to operate effectively in an ambiguous environment
    • Demonstrated ability to analyze data and communicate insights to stakeholders – as well as to get creative when data does not readily exist
    • Superior communication skills, both oral and written
    • Passion for our mission - we’re working on an exciting, challenging, never before solved problem, and we’re looking for people as excited about that as we are.
