Job Description

Primary Function / Primary Goals / Objectives

  • The Senior Manager/Associate Director of Business Development position is responsible for a variety of activities related to creating profitable and sustainable partnership opportunities for ADC Japan
  • He/she will work closely with Japan GM and Area Strategic Planning Director to develop and align strategy and structured approach for Partnerships/Business Development Japan
  • He/she will own end to end BD process, from screening stage, assessment, development, readiness to launch
  • The role will have revenue and division margin targets and high visibility with Japan and Area leadership
  • 80% of the role will be focused on Japan, 20% will be focused on other Asia Pacific markets

Core Job Responsibilities / Accountability / Scope

  • Proactively identify potential partners who can deliver significant incremental revenue to Japan business, across the healthcare ecosystem (to include but not limited to pharma companies, health-tech players, pharmacies, labs, disease management clinics, wellness chains, etc)
  • Initiate discussions with relevant companies : shape new opportunities and collaboration models to create win-win solutions
  • Prepare financial models and related assumptions
  • Lead discussions and negotiations with potential partners
  • Lead the implementation and execution of business plans, with regular partner and internal reviews
  • Proactively build and maintain relationships with key decision-makers and stakeholders within partners
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders including Japan leadership team, legal, quality etc as required
  • As required on a project basis, get involved in business development for other markets ( 20% of time)

Required Skills and Competencies

  • Ability to facilitate strong working relationships across a wide range of internal and external stakeholders
  • Required to deliver to financial targets (revenue and division margin goals)
  • Comfort with ambiguity and ability to shape opportunities which are not obvious
  • Strategic thinker with execution focus
  • Negotiation, critical thinking and problem solving skills
  • Superior communication skills –executive presence, presenting and selling to c-suite
  • Ability to think “out of the box”
  • Excellent English language communication skills

Education Required

  • Masters level
  • MBA preferred

Experience / Knowledge / Certification

  • Good command of Japanese and English
  • Hands on experience of Marketing and/or Sales Operations in Japan healthcare industry and ability to execute and drive initiatives
  • Significant experience with commercial/business development
  • Deep knowledge and understanding of Japanese healthcare system, regulations, promotional code and business custom and practices
  • Strategy consulting background with relevant experience also welcome
