The EM of Reliability will define, own, and execute the future of reliability engineering at Coinbase. The team’s mission is to, “Help engineers design and keep promises in production.” They will grow the team to meet the needs of a rapidly growing organization, and mentor senior leaders on the team. They will champion engineering standards and best practices, and be responsible for co-creating a multi-year vision and roadmap with their manager, reports and peers.

The Reliability team owns our Monitoring and Observability Infrastructure, Log Pipeline, Automated Incident Response Tooling, Service Review Process, Dynamic Configuration Service, and our Service Framework that wraps gRPC.

What you’ll be doing (ie. job duties):

• Grow and Develop Team
  • Continue to hire expanding the team by 6-10 Engineers
  • Hire or develop a technical lead for each sub-team
  • Continue to build a strong public brand for Reliability at Coinbase
• Create the foundations
  • Build a Core Service sub-team
  • Build an Embedded program and sub-team/process
• Communicate multi-year Coinbase reliability vision and roadmap clearly to the rest of the company
• Follow new technology in the broader industry and work to incorporate into Coinbase reliability where appropriate

What we look for in you (ie. job requirements):

• Led teams of 6+ engineers, building reliability tooling and systems at scale.
• Strong written and oral communicator.
• Proven experience attracting and mentoring great IC’s.
• Deep understanding of building cloud infrastructure at scale on AWS or equivalent.
• Passionate about building an open financial system that brings the world together.
• Build a multi-year reliability roadmap and execute to deliver it.
