Job summary

The Red Hat Engineering team is looking for a Manager to join our Desktop team in Madrid, Spain. In this role, you will help lead our people and efforts around hardware enablement and boot management. You’ll manage a team of about 8 engineers and work closely with major hardware partners around planning and enablement of their desktop and laptop systems for running Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) Workstation and Fedora Workstation. The team's focus is not so much on writing drivers themselves, but to ensure there is infrastructure and standards on Linux for enabling new classes of hardware or improving the functionality of existing hardware. Examples of efforts recently done by the team include the Bolt effort for Thunderbolt support, improved fingerprint reader infrastructure, and flicker-free boot.

Primary job responsibilities

• Manage a team of highly skilled engineers, ensuring that they are able to do their job in a fun and efficient manner
• Work with other teams inside Red Hat to coordinate and plan for future Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and Fedora releases
• Work with external partners to make their hardware work better with Red Hat’s Linux offerings

Required skills

• 5+ years of technical experience that include open source development
• Experience with managing and leading software teams
• Experience working with laptop and workstation hardware companies
• Master's degree or equivalent experience
• Excellent consultative skills and written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work on your own in a fast-paced and growing environment
• Experience managing and coaching solutions architects or other customer-facing team members in best practices and processes
• Ability to help create a positive environment for those reporting to you and to foster solid collaboration with other teams
