    Responsibilities

    Registered nurses work collaboratively as part of a professional and medical team that includes doctors, social workers, care managers and therapists. They work to restore the patients’ health by following evidence-based nursing practices, exercising independent judgement and managing complex health issues. Nurses provide physical and psychological support to patients and also delegate tasks to ancillary team members. Typical RN duties include identification of care needs and individualized care planning, assessing/monitoring physical parameters, inserting intravenous catheters, monitoring and administering medications/ intravenous infusions all to help optimize the patient’s recovery to health, ensure high quality care and provide a safe hospital environment.

    The Vascular Access (IV) Resource Nurse provides specialized vascular access consultation and care in collaboration with patients, nursing colleagues and providers. They serve as key resource on challenging vascular access clinical conditions and mentor other staff in meeting the vascular access needs of their patients while promoting evidence-based care. This nurse serves as the central point of coordination for PICC and non-tunneled central line care including insertion of PICCs, midlines and dressing changes for same. They routinely coach and provide consultation to a wide variety of clinicians in venous access related issues and indicators for inserting and/or removing IV access and may assist practitioners in central line placement.

    Qualifications

    Education Background

    • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. BSN preferred.

    Licensure, Registration, Certification

    • A current Registered Nurse License for the State of Washington is required.
    • CRNI Certification upon hire or willing to obtain within 1 year.

    Special Training/Skills

    • PICC and midline validated competency
    • Minimum of 12 hours of venous access education in last 2 years
    • Demonstrated ability to coach and provide feedback to colleagues
    • Strong collaboration/communication skills

    Work Experience

    • Minimum of five years of prior RN experience is required. Two years in a position requiring advanced central access skills.

    Physical Abilities

    • Must be able to safely maneuver patients and supplies.
    • Must be able to handle a fluctuating workload.
    • This job requires ability to communicate clearly in English (verbal and written) with all stakeholders (providers, caregivers, patients, family members) for the effective treatment of patients.

    Physical Demand Level: Heavy

    In an 8-hour workday, must be able to-

    • Lift / Carry
      • 50 to 100 pounds occasionally
      • 25 to 50 pounds frequently
      • 10 to 20 pounds constantly

    As required, must be able to -

    Sit, Stand, Walk, Bend, Squat, Kneel, Crawl, Climb and Reach above shoulders
    Push and Pull
    Perform fine motor functions
    Must possess functional vision, hearing, and speech in order to communicate effectively with clients, client advocates, and staff.
