About the Role

We're seeking an experienced designer to be a core contributor on our Chorus team, our industry-leading platform for digital publishers. Informed by the success of Vox Media’s networks and internal branded content agency, Chorus is a complete media stack for brand and community building, content creation, audience engagement, distribution, measurement, and monetization. Within the Vox Product team, the Chorus team builds innovative tools that enable our editorial teams to tell compelling stories; design dynamic, engaging audience experiences that can travel across myriad platforms and devices; and ensure our editorial teams can learn from and continuously adapt within an ever-changing industry.

Designers on the Chorus team collaborate with thoughtful product, engineering, and editorial partners to create best-in-class tools and audience experiences for digital publishing. As a Product Designer, you will have the opportunity to have a strong strategic influence on our products, our process, and our team. You’ll be joining the team at a pivotal time as we expand Chorus to external partners and focus on turning Chorus into the best platform for digital publishing.

In this role, you’ll be a champion for innovative, boundary-pushing editorial design at scale, while working to onboard partners to the Chorus platform. The ideal candidate brings experience with CMS’s, strong knowledge of design systems, some front end knowledge, and an ability to translate brand design into component-based site design. You should be capable of self-direction, have experience pairing with developers and presenting to clients, have a passion for user-centered design, and a great eye for typography.

What you’ll do:

  • Work with partner (customer) teams to deliver user experiences that are powerful, efficient, and delightful
  • Understand and help shape the high-level goals of a project; articulate and help define the design approach
  • Design rich editorial destinations that achieve business and user goals with Chorus capabilities
  • Interpret brands for expression on the Chorus platform
  • Prioritize accessibility through design
  • Advocate for and execute user-centered design
  • Contribute to process improvements and documentation
  • Collaborate closely with PM, Design Directors, and Engineering on how best to tackle designs and execution on the Chorus platform
  • Pair with Research to understand partner analytics, surveys, and other sources of user data
  • Collaborate with engineers to vet feasibility, implement, and iterate on interactive designs
  • Forge strong stakeholder relationships with product, engineering, and editorial teams to become a trusted partner
  • Enforce and model the expected behaviors listed in our Code of Conduct and Ethics Guidelines
  • Connect, converse, and collaborate with teams and individuals across all of Vox Media Design to learn, tackle new initiatives, and meet unexpected challenges.

What you’ll bring:

  • 3-5 years of experience designing and shipping mobile and web products, with a portfolio that shows off your product and interaction work
  • Experience working with CMS’s and design systems
  • Demonstrated understanding of layout and typography
  • Deep understanding of user-centered design and an iterative product design process
  • A strong command of current web design trends with a curiosity for new technologies and a desire to innovate on how people engage with the news
  • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to present work strategically and effectively to a variety of audiences
  • Experience working in a consultation or agency environment
  • Curiosity for new technologies and a desire to innovate on how people engage with the news
  • Enthusiasm for Vox Media and a desire to contribute to our design culture
