Please join Bain & Company’s Advanced Analytics Group for a hackathon at Bain’s Digital Hub in Berlin! The invite-only event will take place over the weekend of March 6, 2020 and will give you the opportunity to learn about Bain, meet fellow data scientists from across Europe, and help to solve a real environmental issue facing our friends at The Nature Conservancy. It will be a great way to see firsthand how data science is delivering results in management consulting and beyond.

The hackathon will be all expenses paid (including travel) if you are selected to participate. We are looking for the best data scientists in Europe, and will invite the most talented hackathon participants to take part in our regular recruiting process.

About the Advanced Analytics Group (AAG): Bain’s Advanced Analytics Group is a team of high-impact quantitative technology specialists who solve statistical, machine learning, and data engineering challenges that we encounter in client engagements. AAG team members hold advanced degrees in subjects ranging across statistics, mathematics, computer sciences, and other quantitative disciplines, and have backgrounds in a variety of fields including data science, marketing analytics, and academia.

Event logistics

The hackathon will take place March 6 – 8, 2020 at Bain & Company’s office in Berlin, Germany.

Participants will travel to Berlin on the morning of Friday, March 6. The event will kick-off early Friday afternoon, and participants will work to develop their solutions over the course of the weekend.

The hackathon will conclude Saturday evening with an awards ceremony and a night out on the town! Participants return home on Sunday morning.

Application process

After submitting your CV and a brief statement covering why you are interested in attending the hackathon, we will reach out to qualified applicants for a short phone interview.

Cost to participate

Bain will cover all expenses (including travel) for those applicants who are invited to attend.

Qualifications

Required qualifications:

• Enthusiasm for data science and getting results
• Attending, or recently graduated from, a top European Masters or Ph.D. program in data science (or related field). Example programs include, but are not limited to: Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, Computer Science, Econometrics, Business Analytics, Market Research
• Proficiency in Python / R
• Knowledge of core statistical techniques

Beneficial, but not required qualifications:

• Experience with SQL
• Knowledge of Github
• Knowledge of Deep Learning
• Knowledge of Natural Language Processing
• Knowledge of Apache Spark
