Inside Project Manager - Public Sector

As the VMware Public Sector Inside Project Manager (IPM)- Graduate, you will be responsible for leading residency engagements to meet customer requirements and business metrics. We use standard Project management techniques and processes to lead project activities, schedules, resourcing, costs, and technical solutions to achieve customer and VMware outcomes.

You will support the Practice Director, Services Sales Executive, Solutions Architect and customer Account Team in the following areas: Initiate and plan residency engagements, execute, monitor and control the project, and close-out or renew the project.

  • Initiate and Plan Phase:
    • Schedule and Host Sales to Delivery: The designated IPM will schedule and host the Sales to Delivery call with all the key internal partners.
    • Resource Request: The IPM will facilitate a Sales to Delivery call with the Program Manager and Practice Manager to discuss what should be submitted in the resource request.
    • Customer Calls: To establish customer relations and to set an expectation, the IPM will call the customer, introduce themselves along with the other VMWARE partners, and set a staffing expectation.
    • VARs/Access requirements: The IPM will work with the customer to determine what paperwork needs to be provided for access.
    • Internal and External Kick Off Calls: Once the above is completed and a resource is identified, the IPM will draft, schedule, and host the two kick-off calls.
  • Execute, Monitor, and Control Phase
    • Time Approvals: The IPM will oversee all time approvals for their residencies. resolve, they will include the PM.
    • Update Resource Requests and RM: It is the job of the IPM to maintain and update RMO and Resource Requests as changes are made.
    • Travel: IPM will approve the Travel & Expense of the account.
    • Forecast/ Status Reports: Forecasts and status reports will be updated and or drafted/ submitted by the IPM on a consistent basis.
    • Engagement Calls: The IPM is responsible for scheduling and hosting both internal and external engagement calls as check ins with the resources and customers.
  • Close out or Renew Phase
    • Closures: If the engagement is scheduled to close without renewal, the IPM will make sure all the hours were worked, all the time approvals were submitted, and the close outs are scheduled and hosted.
    • Renewal: If the customer wishes to renew, the IPM will oversee the appropriate approvals, submissions, and logistics.

Other responsibilities can include:

  • Collaborate with professional services delivery partners
  • As the critical interface for customers and partners, you will
    • Manage engagement per the internal and industry standard process
    • Ensure project measurement and quality assurance metrics are developed, tracked and reported.
    • Assist sales and business development initiatives, such as demos, presentations, tradeshows
    • Assist with VMware consulting staff technology training and enablement
    • Provide project oversight, leadership, and customer relationship management
  • Project Planning – high-level plan development, integration to portfolio governance process
  • Scope Management – initiation, scope planning, scope definition, scope verification, scope change control
  • Time Management – activity definition, sequencing, and duration estimating; schedule development and control
  • Risk Management – risk identification, quantification, response development, and response control
  • Quality Management – quality planning, assurance, and control
  • Communications Management – planning, information distribution, performance reporting, administrative closure

Customer Happiness – handling customer expectation and soliciting customer feedback

  • Contribute to development and maintenance of PMO standards, processes, and standard methodologies
  • Actively identify business opportunities and other activities that impact future business during engagements (either Services or Licenses) and inform sales or management team
  • Stays current on VMware services and solution offerings Desired Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Ability to work within a team and provide the leadership for the professional services engagement
  • Self-motivated and able to deliver high-quality deliverables.
  • Use of formal project management tools (e.g., MS-Project, Visio, etc.)
  • Ability to run and shift priorities quickly and effectively when needed.
  • Strong oral and written communications skills
  • Strong analytical as well as interpersonal skills with an ability to handle challenging client demands
  • B.S./B.A./M.S. degree or equivalent training /experience
  • PMP/PRINCE certification (or equivalent) highly desirable
