    Responsibilities

    The STAT Nurse is a highly-skilled licensed practitioner trained to respond and support bedside nurses and practitioners when urgent and emergent situations arise. The STAT nurse is a resource who exercises independent nursing judgment in managing the care of patients with complex health problem(s) with a specific focus in supporting Cardiac Catheterization and Interventional Radiology procedures, as well as staff nurses throughout the organization in managing urgent and emergent situations. The STAT nurse makes independent judgments/decisions and takes action regarding a wide range of complex patient care issues that requires high-level critical thinking, analysis, and actions within the scope of nursing practice. This role is differentiated from other nursing related roles in that the STAT nurse does not assume a full patient assignment but rather serves in a roving role addressing multiple needs and situations as they arise throughout the shift.

    The STAT nurse provides expert skill and knowledge to meet urgent patient care needs across all departments. Workflows are unstructured and based on urgent patient care needs. The STAT nurse may also provide consultative resources to any discipline in the hospital. The STAT nurse collaborates with the nursing supervisor to triage priorities that support patient care needs. The priority functions will be to first support the emergent nursing care needs in the Cardiac Catheterization lab and in the Interventional Radiology suite to facilitate urgent Stroke and STEMI management. Additional support functions include care of critically ill patient during transport from the Emergency Department to the ICU and to the Diagnostic Imaging area (CT/MRI). This nurse will utilize advanced practice skills to provide support for all Code Blue and Rapid Response events in the Medical Center.

    This STAT nurse will perform specific leadership functions related to clinical practice and education as delegated by the manager. This nurse provides leadership for functions related to the delivery of quality critical care nursing care, effective problem solving, communication and continued professional development for self and others.

    Qualifications

    Education Background

    • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. BSN preferred.

    Licensure, Registration, Certification

    • A current Registered Nurse License for the State of Washington is required.
    • ACLS and BLS required.
    • CCRN certification required.
    • CEN or CMC or CSC certification preferred.

    Special Training/Skills

    • Advanced patient assessment
    • Peripheral line insertion proficiency and Central line/PA catheter management
    • Knowledgeable of vasoactive medication delivery, cardiovascular hemodynamics and intra-aortic balloon pump management required.
    • Demonstrated ability to self-motivate and self-direct
    • Excellent clinical judgment and analytical skills
    • Previous supervisory/charge experience preferred

    Work Experience

    • Minimum of three to five years critical care RN experience is required.
    • At least 1 year experience in a critical care specialty area (i.e. cath lab, IR, open heart recovery) required.
    • Cardiac cath lab and/or Interventional Radiology and Emergency room experience preferred.

    Physical Abilities

    • Must be able to safely maneuver patients and supplies.
    • Must be able to handle a fluctuating workload.
    • This job requires ability to communicate clearly in English (verbal and written) with all stakeholders (providers, caregivers, patients, family members) for the effective treatment of patients.
