Role Overview
This position manages a large team of both experienced professionals and team leaders in General Engineering. Directs key activities, manages budget and key performance, and plans for more effective utilization of human and material resources to achieve operational targets.

This position is for a highly motivated Senior Engineering Manager to assemble and lead teams of 10-15 software engineers and project engineers whose charter is to design and develop embedded platform software, including software that interfaces with hardware. Aircraft supported cover a wide range of military and commercial, fixed and rotary wing platforms. Cutting edge technologies include multi-core safety critical processing, and machine learning platforms.

The top priority for this role is to develop and execute a strategy to build teams that can both develop solutions, and effectively manage teams of subcontractors extending the direct team’s capacity.

The team’s charter includes customizing and integrating OS components, designing and developing device drivers, board support packages, network and IO protocols, boot code, libraries, and applications, and middleware.

This role involves project leadership spanning the life cycle including bids, project management, design, requirements capture, coding, integration, verification, cybersecurity, and DO-178 certification. Responsibilities include technical leadership and accountability for team and project performance. The role requires strong leadership skills, a passion for coaching and mentoring, systems and software engineering skills, masterful communication skills, familiarity with software development tools, critical and innovative thinking, strategic planning, and an ability to build and motivate a team. The role also includes administrative leadership tasks including staffing, hiring, interfacing with suppliers, personnel development plans, performance reviews, salary planning, and policy and procedure adherence.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) discipline
  • Experience hiring and onboarding talent
  • Experience with technical management of subcontractors
  • Experience with DO-178B/C process and certification
  • Experience developing or integrating low-level (platform) software
  • Experience with hardware and systems engineering
  • Experience with project management, bidding, planning, and risk management
  • Experience leading teams and mentoring

Basic Qualifications:
This position requires a Bachelor’s degree in the appropriate discipline and 8 years of relevant experience or an Advanced degree in the appropriate discipline and 5 years of relevant experience.In the absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience is required.
