1st Line Support Engineer

At Linguamatics, you’ll be supporting the delivery of sophisticated text mining software products used in the world’s leading life science and healthcare organizations. We are now looking for a Site Support Engineer in our Cambridge UK headquarters to provide IT support to colleagues working on-site and remotely. Site Support Engineers configure, deploy, maintain and upgrade hardware and software for end users. You will also work with third line support teams across the organisation to provide a remote hands function, assisting in the resolution of escalated issues.


Responsibilities
  • Manage the user on-boarding, off-boarding and role change processes.
  • Configuration, deployment, maintenance and upgrades of end user compute devices (i.e. laptops, desktops, phones).
  • Provide first IT line support to local and remote users. Reproduce and resolve end user problems. Meet Service Level Objectives.
  • Escalate more complex problems to the relevant third line support team or infrastructure department. Monitor the progress of escalated problems and flag those which are severe or exceeding target dates.
  • Maintain accurate asset management records.
  • Support local telephony and video conferencing facilities.
  • Adhere to established IT policies, procedures and standards. Ensure that information systems within your remit conform to said policies and standards.
  • Maintain a thorough working knowledge of the day-to-day operating environment, available tools, and client applications.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of Service Desk and IT Operations procedures related to client services.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will be a fast learner and will have most of the following attributes:

  • Able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, managers and clients.
  • Calm and methodical problem solver.
  • Proactive and responsible.
  • Practical understanding of end user device administration, e.g. Microsoft Windows, macOS, iOS, Android.
  • Experience of Active Directory.
  • Understanding of networking fundamentals, e.g. TCP/IP, switching, routing, etc.
  • Prior exposure to administration of Microsoft Windows Server and associated services, such as CIFS, Sharepoint or Exchange, is an advantage but is not essential.
  • Prior experience with Office 365 is an advantage but is not essential.
