Who You'll Work With

You’ll work with McKinsey’s Healthcare Practice in one of our offices in North America. Our healthcare practice is home to 500+ colleagues in North America consisting of consultants, deep content and technical experts, technologists, clinicians, and operational leaders. We come together, often as blended teams to improve healthcare. Our healthcare practice serves N. American payors, PBMs, providers and, pharmacies, and services companies and works with both public sector and private sector healthcare organizations. Our practice is organized around domains, which house intellectual property and expert practitioners, centers of excellence, and tribes. Tribes are cross-functional special teams working to bring a distinctive approach to our clients in practice priority areas like digital and analytics. This position would be a part of the pharmacy domain, with distinctive capabilities in the areas of pharmacy strategy, pharmacy cost management, pharmacy operations management, etc.

What You'll Do

You will manage projects or programs that significantly improve clients’ performance and strategic positioning in pharmacy value chain, as well as drive development of knowledge in pharmacy space, technology assets, and client development in the space.

To do this, you'll collaborate within a team working on various topics with clients across pharmacy value chain – all the entities between pharmaceutical companies and end-consumers (wholesalers, pharmacies, PBMs, payors, providers, and service companies).

You will work directly with client leaders, mid-level management and front-line operators to drive change that is critical to successful realization of goals. As such, you will provide oversight, problem-solving support and practical industry expertise, frequently involving facilitating on-site workshops, individual and group coaching, and change management sessions.

From the start of a project, you will be on the ground ensuring that engagement success is a priority. We engage at a deep level across our clients’ businesses, working in small teams to build the capabilities, systems, and processes needed to deliver bottom-line results and then ensure those results are sustainable. Our work is about problem solving, coaching, and delivering lasting outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate or Master’s degree, MBA, MHA, preferred; outstanding record of academic achievement
  • PharmD is a plus, but not required
  • 6 -10 years of experience in a health care environment with deep expertise in pharmacy topics
  • Experience with pharmacy strategy and business development, end to end pharmacy benefit management transformation, pharmacy cost management for payors and PBMs
  • Expert in drug purchasing and rebate management, retail pharmacy operations, mail and specialty pharmacy operations, hospital pharmacy operations, PBM
  • 5+ years of management consulting experience, ideally including as an engagement director
  • OR, alternatively, 5+ years of PE / banking / analyst experience in healthcare with focus on pharmacy
  • History of managing projects/programs to significantly improve pharmacy cost and operational performance for payors, PBMs, retail/mail pharmacies, and wholesalers
  • Familiarity with PBM and pharmacy operations and tech platforms and concepts, ideally with exposure to product development or implementation
  • Understanding of the principles of change management and performance metrics and dialogs, particularly in payors, PBMs, retail and mail pharmacies
  • High level of entrepreneurship, professionalism and excitement to help build a start-up business in an ambiguous environment
  • Able to provide leadership over and influence individuals and across multiple stakeholders from different levels, backgrounds by tailoring approach
  • Sound problem-solving capabilities and ability to quickly process complex information and present it during change transformation efforts with clients
  • Ability to multi-task, work under pressure and deliver accurate and high volume results on tight deadlines
  • Experience in and appetite for analytics and quantitative/data analysis and ideally in the healthcare sector
  • Comfort with traveling ~50% of time to client sites
