Janssen Research & Development, L.L.C., a division of Johnson & Johnson's Family of Companies is recruiting for a Senior Scientist in Discovery Immunology, located in Spring House, PA.
The primary responsibility for this individual will be to lead a team of biologists and prosecute projects that deliver high quality clinical candidates. The Senior Scientist will be a part of a broader team focused on adaptive immune mechanisms in Immunology Discovery. This individual will provide scientific leadership within the Adaptive Discovery team and interface with internal and external partners to discover novel therapeutics to treat autoimmune diseases. Emphasis is placed on development, execution and interpretation of in vivo studies to address therapeutic hypothesis, understand pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic profile and bridge to first-in-human translational studies. Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Work independently on cutting edge research, design experiments, interpret data, troubleshoot and suggest next steps.
• Coaching, mentoring and managing people for performance and scientific growth.
• Present ideas, both verbally and in writing to diverse audiences including scientific colleagues and senior leadership.
• Accurate record data in compliance with data integrity requirements and draft technical sections of discovery reports or regulatory documents
• Collaboratively work in a matrix environment where ideas can be respectfully challenged to drive excellence and innovation.
Qualifications
• PhD in Immunology, Pharmacology, Immuno-oncology or Virology with at least 3-5 years of pharmaceutical industry or in vivo pharmacology CRO experience with progressively advanced responsibilities and detail-oriented organizational skills is required.
• Previous supervisory experience of PhD level and non-PhD-level scientists is required.
• Experience in drug discovery programs in immune-mediated diseases is required, with previous experience in autoimmune diseases strongly preferred.
• Demonstrated success as an in vivo pharmacologist/scientist, with a proven track record of good experimental design, in-depth data analysis and interpretation is required; Understanding of pharmacological concepts (target engagement, PK/PD, efficacy and mechanism of actions) is required.
• Proficient in handling, dosing and monitoring of animals is required; Familiar with rodent anatomy and tissue harvest techniques is required.
• Experience with ex vivo assays to characterize PD or target engagement effects of experimental medicines is preferred (intracellular signaling, multi-color flow cytometry, multiplex cytokine/inflammatory mediator assessment, gene signatures, etc).
• Experience with isolation and culture of primary immune cells is preferred; Experience with molecular biology (Western blot, real time RT-PCR and ELISA) is preferred.
• Experience with ‘omics (Microarray, RNA seq, single cell sequencing, Somalogics) data analysis (differential expressed genes, pathway / network analysis or gene set enrichment analysis) is preferred.
• Strong written and oral communication skills to diverse audiences including scientific colleagues and leadership, and an ability to provide fit-for-purpose communication in the context of a multidisciplinary team are required.
• Position located in Spring House, PA and may require up to 10% travel.
