Job Description

The Janssen Biotherapeutics organization is seeking a Scientist to join its therapeutic protein discovery efforts based in San Diego, CA. The Assay Group within Janssen Biotherapeutics New Platforms and Technologies develops and runs assays to support biologic therapeutic and platform discovery. You will understand your field of expertise well and be up to date on peer reviewed literature and are able to examine data critically.

In this role you will be knowledgeable in the latest technology and advancements applicable to your work in order to designs fit-for-purpose experiments and solve problems and answer scientific questions. You are capable of clearly articulating your research in peer reviewed publications and internal/external presentations. You are also capable of representing the Assay Group on cross functional project teams.

Key Responsibilities:

You will participate in multiple programs supporting multiple therapeutic areas. The position requires collaboration with other departments and scientists within various functional groups so proactive communication to facilitate inter/intra-team workflow/handoffs is critical. You must be able to clearly communicate results, strategy, goals, etc. in an audience/level appropriate manner.

A Ph.D. or equivalent degree with 0-3 years post-doctoral experience, or a minimum of 12 years of experience performing progressively advanced duties beyond a B.S. degree.

• Proficiency in general lab skills including sterile cell culture techniques.
• Proficiency in developing and running biochemical and cell-based assays.
• Experience with imaging and automation preferred.
• As part of a creative, innovative research team you will independently hypothesize, design and execute projects and analyses.
• You have excellent observational, analytical and documentation skills, and are a highly motivated and conscientious teammate.
