Basic Purpose and Objectives
Functions as the Operations Services project manager for products and services provided to Pearson customers. Develops and supports operational strategies, plans, and procedures to ensure deliverables, schedules, quality, and cost metrics are met. Manages operations project management scope for his or her project(s).
Organizational Relationships
Direction Received: Receives general direction on Pearson and Operations Services policy and procedures from Director of Scoring Services & Operations.
The Project Manager works as a critical member in a cross-functional team. This position is responsible for the coordination and management of activities across functional groups and systems supporting Operations Services. Familiarity with matrix organizations, strong interpersonal skills, the ability to build productive relationships and lead teams, and the ability to exercise independent judgment are important organizational relationship skills for this position.
The Project Manager must have the ability to foster productive working relations with internal and external customers.
Overall Functions and Responsibilities
■ Develops and supports plans and strategies for providing products and services to customers.
■ Assumes responsibility for managing multiple projects with varying schedules, scope, and life cycles.
■ Provides direction and coordinates the implementation of strategies and actions for customer deliverables.
■ Develops project and operations specifications documentation for the delivery of their project(s).
■ Develops methods and procedures for controlling costs and other related elements to ensure that products and services are provided in a cost-effective and timely manner.
■ Works with Sales & Contract Management staff to determine the client’s requirements, needs, and schedules.
■ Assists Sales & Contract Management and Operations personnel by providing consultation regarding products and services as well as preparing and conducting customer presentations as required.
■ Guides, trains, and supports other personnel in a matrix organization.
■ Assists Operations management and leadership in their assigned tasks.
■ Analyzes project performance, identifies inefficiencies, and recommends improvements.
■ Obtains, analyzes, and reports information concerning the strengths and weaknesses of competitors, their products, and strategies.
■ Keeps abreast of industry trends and new technologies.
■ Performs required project administration and control duties.
■ Compiles appropriate reports on assigned activities as requested.
■ Provides information to internal cross functional teams regarding project status, schedules, issues, issue resolution, risks, and risk mitigation.
■ Supports review of proposals and response (costing and text) to those requests.
■ May identify and manage scope changes in collaboration with Sales & Contract Management and Operations personnel.
■ Attends all relevant department and program meetings.
■ Ensures Quality Records are complete and maintained.
Working Conditions
■ Office environment, which is safe and favorable to good working conditions.
■ Travel may be required.
Qualifications
Education, Skills and Knowledge
■ Bachelor’s degree required.
■ Three or more years in assessment industry or project management experience.
■ Knowledge and use of quality management systems, such as ISO 9001, Lean and SixSigma, are highly desired.
■ Knowledge and use of project management tools and applications strongly desired.
■ Demonstrated oral and written communication skills required.
■ Excellent organization skills required.
