Job summary

The Red Hat Engineering team is looking for a Senior User Experience Designer to join our User Experience Design (UXD) team in Boston, MA. In this role, you will define the UX vision and direction for a product or group of products based on UX needs, working with a set of interaction and visual designers, researchers, and developers. You’ll be expected to work closely with the product management and product engineering teams to build and explain the UX roadmap. You should be a UX expert with an ability to identify UX needs and enable the team to carry out those needs to improve a product offering. Ideally, you should have prior experience with complex enterprise applications that are highly technical in nature.

Primary job responsibilities

• Work with stakeholders around the company to understand our offerings in order to build great UX with our offerings
• Guide and participate in research that can help define the best experience for developers using these technologies and capabilities
• Build a UX vision and roadmap for the product in tandem with the UX management and product management
• Use our PatternFly design system for building design flows and identify gaps in the design system for contributing back to ensure that it meets all business needs
• Lead a team of interaction designers, visual designers, researchers, and frontend developers towards the defined roadmap goals
• Clearly understand and articulate the information architecture, workflows, and processes surrounding the user experience
• Mentor and review work of designers
• Work closely with researchers to validate design direction
• Work with developers to implement strategies that ensure technical success

Required skills

• Ability to adjust leadership style to a variety of situations; ability to persuade, encourage, and challenge others
• Adaptable to changing conditions and unexpected obstacles; ability to modify work methods in response to new information to accomplish organizational goals
• 7+ years of experience with the user interface (UI) design process and methodology
• Experience with agile development methodologies
• Bachelor's degree or higher in interaction design, visual design, human computer interaction, human factors, computer science, or a closely related area
