The opportunity

As one of the country's leading and preferred Defence partners, Boeing Defence Australia (BDA) develops and sustains leading edge technologies for some of Australia's largest and most complex Aerospace and Defence projects.

We are seeking an enthusiastic, well-rounded, positive and highly motivated Contracts Director to join BDA's Finance and Commercial Leadership team. With a can do attitude, you will work as part of a dynamic, fast-paced and agile team with overall responsibility for leading BDA's Contracts Function in a matrix organisation.

With a mandate for active business and client partnering, you will support BDA and the Boeing Company's leadership and executives and will oversee the end to end, from market shaping and proposal development to contract close-out, of BDA's Contracts. You will also deal directly with clients and their contracts, commercial and legal advisors to assist in closing commercially and legally complex deals.

Responsibilities

  • Effectively lead, empower, motivate, mentor, train, guide and retain a high-performance Contract team with an emphasis on creating an accountable performance culture.
  • Develop, and maintain an extensive and effective relationship with BDA's and the Boeing Company's leadership, client counterparts and industry partners to ensure effective commercial outcomes in support of business objectives.
  • Demonstrate safety leadership and behaviours consistent with the enterprise behaviours and strategies.
  • Develop and maintain a best practice contractual and commercial framework, strategies and risk management practices to manage and mitigate commercial and legal risks across the business and to ensure adherence to all contracts, legal, commercial and business policies and standards while providing an effective framework to drive business growth.
  • Continuously improve the quality and timeliness of contractual and commercial outcomes across the organisation.
  • Provide effective contractual and commercial advice in creating innovative commercial solutions for highly complex and unique contractual and commercial landscape.

Experience/Qualifications

  • Primary Requirement – A minimum 15 years proven experience in a similar role with extensive successful leadership experience and strong commercial and legal skills in large-scale and highly complex landscape with a strategic focus. Demonstrated skills in successfully drafting, negotiating, interpreting and advising senior managers and executives of a multinational organisation on a range of large-scale highly complex commercial deals is highly regarded.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive, deliver and sustain large scale transformation in commercial landscape.
  • Proven ability to develop and present innovative solutions to influence both people and outcome
  • Experience working with multiple stakeholders, excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to effectively manage competing priorities in a fast paced environment.
  • Formal qualifications in a related discipline (Law, Accounting or Business Management). Formal qualification in law is highly desirable.
  • Previous demonstrated experience with Australian Standard Defence Contracting (ASDEFCON) suite of templates is highly desirable.
  • Applicants must be Australian Citizens to meet defence security requirements.
