Job Description

In this role, you have the opportunity to:

Support Philips’ MR Patient Care group as a Mechanical Engineer, providing mechanical expertise across all aspects of products from advanced development to troubleshooting of issues in the field. You will have the opportunity to perform detailed design of patient monitoring assemblies, as well as generating and managing component level requirements.

You are responsible for:

The Mechanical Engineer will be a member of the Product Development staff and be involved in the design, development, and maintenance of new and existing MRI compatible products.

  • Responsible for the mechanical design of existing and future generations of MR Patient Care products.
  • Provide oversight of R&D activities (i.e. internal and external support) developing products for the MRI space.
  • Oversee compliance and V&V activities, including offsite test management.
  • Able to craft clear engineering documents and test protocols
  • Conduct design reviews, FMEA analyses, DfX, intergrate team feedback, and release design documents to support programs
  • Review and ensure adequacy of supplier qualification activities.
  • Analyze field issues using methodical problem solving techniques, establish root cause, and provide solutions where required.
  • Actively participate on cross-functional/cross-business project teams through all phases of product development to ensure successful execution of innovative, best-in-class designs.

You are a part of

The MR Patient Care Business identifies and meets customer and market needs by designing, developing, and distributing specialized MRI compatible solutions, consumables and sensors. You will report directly to the Sr. Mechanical Engineering Manager, Product Development. The MR Patient Care team is part of the General and Specialty Care (GSC) business unit.

To succeed in this role, you should have the following skills and experience

  • Bachelor of Science degree required, (Masters of Science preferred) with a concentration in an engineering discipline, Mechanical Engineering preferred.
  • Minimum 5+ years of mechanical engineering/design experience.
  • Experienced in designing mobile and portable electronic enclosures.
  • Familiarity with current ISO standards family that apply to medical devices.
  • Ability to interface with internal stakeholders and be effective at managing suppliers.
  • Experienced in design of die-castings, injection moldings, machining and sheet metal.
  • Experience using Finite Element Analysis (FEA) programs to analyze designs for static and dynamic stresses.
  • Experience in thermal analysis of PCBs and electronic enclosures
  • Experience in using 3D Parametric/Design tools (Creo, Solidworks, Windchill etc.).
  • Knowledgeable of ASME Y14.100 Design Guidelines.
  • Proficient in Geometric, Design and Tolerancing (GD&T) principles.
  • Experience with design reviews based on failure modes (DFMEA).
  • Experience with requirements deconstruction from subassemblies to components.
  • Experienced in rapid prototyping techniques (CNC machining, 3D Printing, Sheet Metal, etc.)

Desirable

  • Experience designing products in a regulated industry-Aerospace, DOD, Automotive, Medical device-DESIRED.
  • Understanding of global/FDA regulatory requirements for medical device-DESIRED.
  • LEAN/Six Sigma certification or experience.
  • Familiarity with risk management through a full product development cycle from requirements to validation.
