Freelance Journalist

Job Description

Role Summary:

We are looking for a freelancer to join our team in South Korea/ Republic of Korea beginning around Jan. 15 through April 22 (one week after the election) to help provide information and content for the coverage of the Parliamentary elections on April 15.

The person will collect information about candidates and political parties and liaise with the electoral commission ( http://www.nec.go.kr ).They will also have a chance to help with reporting and monitoring duties in the bureau when they are not working directly on the elections.

Major Responsibilities / Accountabilities:

• Contact political parties to gather political party logos, party colors and party abbreviations and upload them to a webpage.
• Gather social media accounts for ~1200 political candidates (Parliamentary candidates). These will include Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Wikipedia. Freelancer will identify these sites through official party sources if available or through basic web searches on publicly-available websites.
• Liaise with the electoral results provider, NEC, on any questions that technical or product team may have.
• Translate any election-related (translate election-related fields in xml documents). No prior technical knowledge is required.
• Liaise with NEC, technical and product teams on availability of data, results, testing procedures
• Monitor and update teams on local events that may impact the elections and results
• Monitor published results on election night and following days and report any issues to product and technical team.
• Freelancer must be available to work election night through completion of results – the following day.

Technical /Professional Skills & Competencies:

Essential Skills & Experience Required:

• Fluent English and local language(s).
• Willingness to work a mixture of hours to liaise with a team in the US as well as local stakeholders
• Keen eye for detail
• Sense of urgency and strong communication skills

Desired Skills:

• Some technical interest is useful as the successful candidate will be dealing with data delivery options but is not required. This is not a technical role.
• Interest in journalism and data

Education/ Certifications:

• No specific qualifications required
