Job Description
What you’ll be doing...
This position will lead a team of engineers that manage the operation, administration, maintenance and performance of the wireless communications voice and data network at multiple Service Aggregation Points (SAPs) and Mobile Telephone Switching Offices (MTSOs) in the Texas and Louisiana markets. This includes managing multiple MTSOs designated as access/transport aggregation point (TAP) sites and distribution (SAP) locations to include the LTE (SGW, MME, PGW) and CDMA (5E, RNCs) network elements located at each of the MTSOs. This position is also responsible for all inter-MTSO transport systems (dark fiber & lit facilities), interconnect and auxiliary equipment systems (Ciena and Fujitsu optical equipment, DACS, voice mail, routers, and switches). This position will also be responsible for the AC & DC power systems, HVAC cooling equipment and building/facility maintenance.
Other responsibilities include:
- Directing and supervising the network assurance team to ensure proper maintenance and operations of equipment for highest reliability.
- Organizing and planning the timely installation of hardware, facilities, translations, and software upgrades.
- Participating in the planning and implementation of new MSC facilities/upgrades and network technologies to accommodate network evolution and growth in order to sustain optimal network reliability and performance.
- Actively managing capital and expense budgets to achieve best costs while maintaining high quality & reliability.
- Meeting regional and corporate targets for cell availability and performance of the network.
- Ensuring all corporate security, safety, and environmental policies & procedures are adhered to.
- Leading, motivating, and coaching a team to achieve performance goals and objectives; and developing employees for future positions in accordance with their personal development plans.
- Providing consistent personnel management including the recruitment, training, and development of a high caliber technical staff.
- Ensuring team coordination and prompt communication with regional management and all Network departments to maintain a cohesive, effective, and efficient team.
- Interfacing and providing support to all other departments in the organization, such as: field operations, construction/implementation, project management, RF, System Performance, and transport on a daily basis to ensure growth and upgrade schedules are being met.
- Engaging equipment and service vendors to perform high quality work at MTSO & SAP locations.
What we’re looking for...
You’ll need to have:
- Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
- Six or more years of relevant work experience.
- Project management experience.
- Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends as necessary.
- Willingness to travel occasionally.
- Valid driver's license.
Even better if you have:
- A degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, or relevant technology major orMaster’s degree.
- Five or more years of experience in the wireless industry or eight or more years of relevant experience, including Operations Management, Engineering and Vendor Management.
- Demonstrated positive, proactive leadership role including taking the initiative to identify matters of importance; resolving problems in a timely fashion; fostering a sense of teamwork; and working well in an unstructured environment.
- Demonstrated track record of managing deliverables and meeting timelines.
- Industry certification in data communications (CCNA, CCNP, CCIE).
- Strong knowledge in the following technologies and/or platforms:
- Alcatel Lucent CDMA/EVDO, Nokia LTE, and router hardware platforms;
- Electronic test equipment in an IP network environment.
- Managing/troubleshooting fiber optic transmission facilities.
- LTE, VoLTE and CDMA call flow for data and voice session.
- Large scale AC and DC power systems.
- Large scale HVAC and cooling equipment.
- Juniper routers and switches; Cisco routers and MITG systems; Ciena and Fujitsu optical transport systems, CWDM, DWDM, Carrier Ethernet, SONET, and traditional facilities (T3, T1, DS0).
- Experience in software development and database administration.
