Role Overview
Collins Aerospace is seeking a Business Intelligence Staff Engineer to support our Surface Transportation and Critical Infrastructure team in developing and deploying complex integrated solutions and systems for the Rail/Transit industry.
Primary Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with senior leadership to analyze the industry opportunities and customer needs for big data solutions.
  • Develop business plans to gain sponsorship and approval of big data initiatives.
  • Support existing business unit projects, across multiple locations, through oversight of requirements, design, and implementation of data warehouse solutions.
  • Lead bid and proposal activities for big data projects through the production of engineering estimates, conceptual designs, and scope of work development.
  • Build and grow the organizational knowledge and skills for data solutions, including data warehousing, data analytics, and machine learning technologies.
  • Support other business units as needed.
  • Develop system level requirements for big data solutions to be used as a baseline for future service offerings and account for integration with existing Collins solutions.
  • Ensure system and subsystem design meet the system requirements through development of documentation, participation in design reviews, and constant communication with other functional disciplines on assigned projects.
  • Support the design and implementation of big data solutions through the technical oversight and subject matter expert review of design artifacts and implementation status.
  • Ensure proper verification and validation of big data solutions through the development and review of requirement traceability matrices, system test plans, and system test procedures.
  • Follow Collins ISO, CMMI, and engineering policies and procedures in performing day to day activities on assigned projects.
  • Proven domain knowledge and knowledge of products, systems, industry best practices, and applicable regulatory requirements on assigned projects.
  • Identify and evaluate risks and opportunities on assigned projects and work with the project manager to develop risk mitigation strategies.
  • Perform engineering trade studies on new technologies or solutions.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Candidates for this role should possess a Bachelor’s degree and 7 years of prior relevant experience or an Advanced degree and 5 years of prior relevant experience. In absence of a degree, 11 years of relevant experience is required.
  • Seven (7) or more years of experience in business intelligence, data analytics, and big data implementation projects, including all phases of the system development life cycle.
  • Five (5) or more years of experience as the lead engineer in data solution projects through bid and proposal and conceptual design activities.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills are required.
  • Ability to influence, inspire, and motivate internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to develop and lead a business growth organization, with initiative and entrepreneurial characteristics.
  • Desired experience with the following technologies or concepts:
    • System and network architecture and design
    • Software Development Life Cycles
    • Systems Engineering V-Model
    • Cybersecurity policies and procedures
    • Oracle Database 18c
    • Golden Gate 12c Foundation Suite
    • Oracle Data Integrator 12c
    • Oracle Business Intelligence, Enterprise Edition 12c
    • WebLogic 12c
    • Oracle Virtual Machine Manager 3
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and configuration management.
  • Ability to work independently and in a cross-functional team environment.
