Job Description

Apartment List is building a product that helps renters find the perfect place to live. We’re looking for a highly data-driven analyst/senior analyst to join our Finance team and build out financial analytics and develop partnerships across the organization. By leveraging financial modeling and advanced analytical skills and techniques, you are able to support business leaders and drive operational decision-making to help us solve our most crucial business problems. The ideal candidate possesses exceptional analytical and cross-functional communication skills & has experience with financial processes and operational projects .

Here is what you'll do as part of the team:

    • Business Analyst
    • Provide business analysis, financial modeling, and decision support to senior executives and business leaders with recommendations to solve business issues and improve the Company’s strategic, operational and financial model
    • Drive actionable insight to decision-makers to influence strategy and performance - generate forecasts, recommendations, and strategic/tactical plans
    • Develop and report weekly and monthly metrics to help measure the business performance
    • Identify and interpret trends and patterns in datasets to attribute key business drivers
    • Analyze and define metrics that tie back to business performance and initiatives
    • Coordination and ability to work well with leaders across the business
    • Financial Analyst - Business Partnering
    • Preparing departmental budgets and forecasts, internal management reporting and dashboards, and ad-hoc financial analysis
    • Designing and implementing scalable FP&A and financial processes that support the needs of a rapidly growing business and build efficiencies
    • Developing department-level budgets and reporting monthly, quarterly, and annual P&Ls vs Budget and various scenarios
    • Coordination, consolidation, and analysis of the financials to company leaders
    • Preparing board materials and assisting in the development of long-range strategic and financial plans

Here are the skills and experience you’ll need to be successful:

    • Master’s or Bachelor's degree in a relevant field of study
    • 3+ years of finance/FP&A, investment banking, business intelligence or consulting experience
    • Experience with business intelligence and analytics - strong experience with one or more language(s) used for querying (e.g. SQL, etc)
    • Advanced Excel skills including pivot tables, macros, charts, functions, vba modeling
    • Experience with Chartio, Tableau or similar BI platform to develop reports and dashboards
    • Problem solver - able to identify the root causes of changes in key metrics and run tests to validate your hypotheses
    • Inquisitive - curiosity with the ability to recognize inefficiencies and challenge the status quo
    • Business acumen - aptitude in understanding and dealing with risks and opportunities in a manner that is likely to lead to a good business outcome
    • Attention to detail combined with creative thinking - superior reporting and editing skills
    • Ability to tailor insights to present clearly to technical and non-technical audiences - excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • You are a strong communicator that is comfortable working and interacting with senior leadership and a range of teams across the company
    • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced startup environment and balance multiple projects simultaneously
