Job summary

The Red Hat Cloud Services Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) team is looking for a skilled engineering Intern to join our team in New York, NY. The Red Hat Cloud Services SRE team is responsible for creating and maintaining the mission critical infrastructure and tools used to deliver Red Hat managed services to customers. In this role, you will have a chance to gain real-world experience with modern technologies like containerization and microservices in a Red Hat OpenShift and Kubernetes context using SRE principles. This is an exciting opportunity to expand your skills to help create the next generation of managed services for Red Hat, while gaining in-depth knowledge about Red Hat's business and the open source culture.

Primary job responsibilities

  • Learn our existing tools and offerings
  • Gain an understanding of the problems we are trying to solve
  • Identify the strengths and weaknesses of existing technologies to find a solution that makes full use of these tools
  • Work with the team on a solution and present it
  • Create and implement technical offerings and systems
  • Play an important part in the development of SRE processes and culture

Required skills

  • Ability to work full-time hours during the summer of 2020 in the location listed
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate in a globally distributed environment
  • Passion for technology, working the open source way
  • Ability to work well on your own and in groups; experience with and an appreciation for agile principles and practices
  • Intermediate knowledge of Linux and the ability to learn various development and scripting languages, specifically Python and Golang, as well as workflow automation
  • Familiarity with containerization and Red Hat OpenShift and Kubernetes
  • Passion for solving complex problems; ability to create or identify solutions that are well-tested and maintainable
