Job Description

Location: San Francisco, CA

Coinbase has built the world's leading compliant cryptocurrency platform serving over 30 million accounts in more than 100 countries. With multiple successful products, and our vocal advocacy for blockchain technology, we have played a major part in mainstream awareness and adoption of cryptocurrency. We are proud to offer an entire suite of products that are helping build the cryptoeconomy, and increase economic freedom around the world.

There are a few things we look for across all hires we make at Coinbase, regardless of role or team. First, we assess whether a candidate demonstrates our values: Clear Communication, Positive Energy, Efficient Execution, and Continuous Learning. Second, we look for signals that a candidate will thrive in a culture like ours, where we default to trust, embrace feedback, disrupt ourselves, and expect sustained high performance because we play as a championship team. Finally, we seek people with the desire and capacity to build and share expertise in the frontier technologies of crypto and blockchain, in whatever way is most relevant to their role.

Our vision here at Coinbase is to bring more innovation, efficiency, and equality of opportunity by helping create an open financial system for the world. We are focused on making digital currency accessible to everyone and are guided by two key principles: be the most trusted company in our industry and create products that are easy to use.

Being the most trusted includes being responsible stewards of data. We are expanding our privacy team to better protect the data of our customers, employees, and stakeholders. If you’re looking to grow privacy and data protection capabilities in a high-intensity environment, we’d like to speak with you about joining our team!

What you’ll be doing:

  • Conduct product privacy reviews: grow your expertise in one or more of Coinbase’s consumer products, and work with product teams to assess, communicate, and mitigate privacy risks.
  • Manage our custom-built privacy tooling and workflows, collaborating cross-functionally with product, engineering, and support teams to improve how we respond to data rights requests worldwide, and bring creative ideas to improving operations.
  • Define and draft process flows to document and clarify changes in operations and workflows.
  • Own portions of the privacy team roadmap; work with various teams to drive key objectives to completion.
  • Contribute to team risk assessment and risk management efforts.
  • Gather operational metrics, develop and meet operational excellence objectives.

What we look for in you:

  • You have 5+ years experience in data privacy, operations, security, compliance, or support.
  • You are a logical problem solver and motivated by fixing things; you can see the gap in a process or flow, design and document possible solutions, and incorporate requirements from multiple teams to move a solution forward.
  • You can handle a balance of long-term projects and various short-turnaround requests.
  • You have excellent verbal and written communication skills and are proactive about flagging questions, concerns, or ideas to your team.
  • You are detail-oriented, highly organized, and a fast learner.
  • You are customer service-oriented; you build strong relationships with your stakeholder teams, advocate for their needs, and have a bias towards action, efficiency and impact.
  • You have a related B.A. or B.S. degree.

Nice to haves:

  • Certification such as CIPM, CIPP/US, CIPP/E, CIPT
  • Experience working with case management tools such as JIRA and Atlassian suite.
  • Experience working with or for fintech or financial services.
  • Experience in auditing or compliance.
