Your Role and Responsibilities
As part of this team, you will go beyond scientific investigation and follow your work through to impact, by building assets for IBM products and clients while advancing the state-of-the-art in AI and Healthcare Informatics. You will work with cutting edge technologies and with our worldwide research team to engineer and design machine learning algorithms, services and end-to-end solutions in the intersection of health and social care. This role will provide you with opportunities to research and develop solutions for challenges originating from real-world problems. As a research scientist, you will be expected to:
* Identify new research problems and design novel solutions together with researchers and business & development teams to ensure that these solutions have a significant impact.
* Develop proof of concept software and production-ready codebases together with research engineers and development teams.
* Communicate and demonstrate innovative concepts to other research and product teams.
* Publish findings in top-tier conferences and journals as well as author patents.
* Work efficiently in a team with limited supervision.
Required Professional and Technical Expertise
* PhD in Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing, Health or Medical Informatics or other related AI domain.
* Ability to execute research challenges, from problem definition to working implementation.
* Software development experience in one or more programming languages, such as Java or Python.
* Ability and willingness to acquire new skills on-the-go.
* Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
* Experience in publishing or presenting in scientific journals or conferences.
Preferred Professional and Technical Expertise
* Experience with knowledge-based systems and/or practical knowledge of semantic technologies, machine learning, deep learning and/or natural language processing.
* Proven experience in machine learning model design and validation on real-world data in the health and social care space.
* Strong publication record in top-tier AI and/or medical informatics conferences or journals.
* Experience working in health and social care environments and their data (knowledge of their complexities, terminologies and ontologies in the field).
* Experience in writing research proposals.
