The Localization Team at Airbnb is a globally distributed group that focuses on continually improving the experience for our global community. We partner with teams across the organization (i.e., Product, Marketing, Policy) to ensure that we are providing the best localized content and experience at every interaction.

As our Localization Manager for APAC & EMEA/LATAM, your primary objective is to make the Global Localization Team as effective as possible to provide the company’s international users with a local experience. With a strong appreciation for the practice and process of globalization, internationalization, localization, translation and transcreation, you understand what is entailed in shipping high-quality localized products across dozens of languages across the world. You will partner with the other managers in the Global Localization Team and multidisciplinary Design and Product leads to ensure the team is properly connected to the product development process. In addition to managing the APAC, EMEA, and LATAM Localization teams, you will be part of the regional leadership team and you will also build and maintain strategic relationships with all regional stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Be main Localization point of contact for all APAC, EMEA, and LATAM leaders and stakeholders regarding localization strategy, planning, collaboration, quality and deliverables
  • Manage, coach and develop the individuals of the Localization team
  • Drive large-scale, operational Globalization improvement programs
  • Closely partner with Head of Localization and Localization leadership team to continuously improve localization process, tooling and quality
  • Develop new processes and features to ensure Airbnb content is being translated in the most efficient manner possible as the company and team grow
  • Ensure translated content meets the Airbnb quality framework
  • Ensure that the global team’s translation KPIs and SLAs are met
  • Ensure that all localization projects are successfully managed from beginning to end, working closely with language specialists, localization managers, content strategists, engineers, product managers and other departments
  • Partner with leaders from other functions in regions to ensure they are getting high quality translated and transcreated content that meets their needs
  • Promote globalization awareness and education to all APAC, EMEA, and LATAM functions, teams and stakeholders

Requirements

  • Extensive experience in Localization Project/Program Management
  • Substantial people management experience
  • Considerable experience as a translator
  • Track record of managing and shipping high-quality translations and localization-led initiatives in a digital product organization
  • Deep knowledge of and appreciation for the globalization process
  • Background establishing systems, supporting teams, and developing relationships
  • Demonstrable skills and experience in mediation, negotiation, presentation and conflict resolution
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal with experience interacting with senior leadership
  • Comfortable with ambiguity, working in fluid, cross-functional, dynamic and fast paced environments
  • A high-level of attention to detail with excellent organizational skills
  • Competent with JIRA, Asana or equivalent. Must be able to manage a ticket queue
  • Fluency in two languages a must (an Asian language preferred), knowledge of additional languages considered a plus
  • Knowledge of CAT tools
