Job Description

The Role

Aquent’s mission is to provide creative talent the best opportunity to not only find jobs they can excel in, but also help them progress on a career path uniquely tailored to their career ambitions. We provide creative talent the opportunity to build professional relationships, evolve their skill sets, and gain exposure and experience by working with the most ground-breaking companies and products around the world. How do we do it?

Our internal product team builds customized software solutions to meet the unique challenges found at the intersection of business, technology, and staffing. We do not work on client projects, nor do we sell the software that we build. What we create helps our global staffing team leverage technology so that they can best position creative talent in the most rewarding career paths possible.

As a Product Designer, you will join a cross-functional product team whose responsibility is to help design and evolve our software solutions. We expect you to employ design thinking (empathize, define, ideate, prototype, test) and UX best practices to create and champion design solutions for our target users. You’ll utilize your expertise in visual, interactive, and UI design to help us build intuitive user experiences within a variety of software contexts.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with project managers, designers, and engineers to oversee the user experience of internal software products and/or features from conception through launch and beyond.
  • Work independently and closely with other designers and engineers to imagine and design beautiful, functional visual and interactive prototypes and designs for a variety of web platforms, target user bases, and contexts.
  • Design flows, experiences and interactions that are intuitive and elegant but most importantly meet the needs of our users.
  • Conducts user research and both research findings and additional and data to understand the importance and value of ideas and features while also identifying and suggesting areas of opportunity.
  • Represent design in a cross-functional capacity, facilitating and engaging in design discussions and exercises across product and business teams.
  • Help evolve and scale our design system by maintaining and contributing to UI pattern libraries.
  • Participate in a friendly and cooperative work environment, giving and accepting feedback, and encouraging innovation and experimentation.
  • Champion the voice of the user at every opportunity.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience working on a product design team (preferably for desktop web and/or mobile software).
  • Excellent understanding of design principles and their role in modern software.
  • A portfolio displaying a deep understanding of UX practices, exceptional UI design skills, and user-centered decision making.
  • Experience with prototyping as a means to explore and convey design solutions to users, our team, and stakeholders alike.
  • At least 1-3 years of experience in developing and conducting user research projects.
  • Working knowledge of how design fits in an agile development environment.
  • Willingness to help build and follow design processes and procedures that can scale.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills – an ability to explain your thinking, influence decision makers, and an ability to work independently or in a group.
  • Flexible, well-organized, and able to manage numerous projects simultaneously.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity.
  • Fluent in Sketch and Invision.

Nice to Haves

  • Proficiency in HTML and CSS.
  • Tendency to ask really good questions.
  • Excited interest in developing and iterating on design systems and UI kits.
