    The Kaushansky Lab at SCRI is looking to recruit undergraduates for a 10 week long, summer project. These students will drive the production of a prototype robot for automation and machine building specific to the research of mosquitos and the pathogens they transmit.

    This is a great opportunity forstudents to learn some basic biology background while focusing on creating robots for automation of lab techniques. Students can expect a fast paced, product driven summer with mentoring by scientists, techs, and engineers. Experience in building robotics, automation, basic mosquito biology, basic lab techniques, and use of computer software can be expected in this summer opportunity!

    Undergraduate students looking to pursue a career in mechanical engineering, biosciences, and biotechnology are encouraged to apply. We are looking for a reliable, organized, self-motivated, and enthusiastic individuals who are great communicators and can thrive in a fast-paced work environment.

    Requirements

    Position Requirements

    • Applicants must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate program
    • Basic biological knowledge; course and/or practical experience in biology and chemistry are desirable but not required.
    • Ability to follow written and verbal directions, as well as ability to work independently.
    • Any machine learning
    • Familiarity with 3D printing
    • Familiarity with 3D drafting software (Google Sketchup, OpenSCAD, Slic3r, etc)
    • Familiarity with Raspberry Pi and Arduino platforms, and/or experience with sensors and stepper motors a plus
