ABOUT THE ROLE As part of our Software R&D team developing factory automation applications, you will be interfacing closely with multiple teams that together design, manufacture, and commission software defined manufacturing lines for our customers, with parts of our software stack residing in the cloud. More specifically, your team owns how we design, build, install, and maintain the compute and network infrastructure needed to support these lines. Another way to put it is, we are doing a hybrid cloud infrastructure to support our customers global needs for new product introduction, inspection, monitoring, and alarming. This role embraces modern software development practices, like being highly agile and has complete ownership of the full lifecycle of this backbone that enables our hybrid cloud. In this case, part of the lifecycle happens in factories, which involves traveling. Travel requirements might be as high as 50% initially and decreasing within the first 6-months. As an owner of this stack, you're empowered and encouraged to implement creative solution's minimizing the need and length of on-site visits.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:

    • Participate in the design and implementation of our hybrid cloud backbone. Focusing on our on-premises deployments
    • Design, provision, configure and maintain:
    • OS: Linux and Windows systems
    • Network: Physical network equipment, and its configuration
    • Storage: Network attached storage
    • Physical Systems: Procure, ship, and install servers, network equipment, and cabling in a rack
    • Support our security team when presenting our hybrid cloud backbone to customers
    • Install, test, and troubleshoot equipment in server racks at customer facilities
    • Evaluate and design highly available compute and network stacks
    • Full lifecycle: we behave as owners, and expect you to work with other team members to investigate design approaches, prototype new technology and evaluate technical feasibility, to keep improving what we do. That includes defining and implementing standards, and promote best practices for our infrastructure.

WHAT WE WANT TO SEE:

    • 3+ years of experience designing and deploying network and compute stacks
    • Proficiency in one modern programming languages (Python, Java, Go, C#/C++) & OSS (Linux)
    • Solid understanding of networking competencies such as VLANs, DHCP, DNS, ACLs, NAT, etc.
    • Ability to travel and work on-site at industrial automation facilities.
    • Self-driven to work independently at all stages of the design and implementation cycles including: Procurement, Commissioning, Deployment, Testing, Documenting, Interfacing with local IT staff, etc.
    • Experience physically racking production equipment such as clean, maintainable wire management.
    • Planning, coordinating and executing an Engineering Change Order with zero-downtime.
    • Clear and professional communication skills. At times this role require direct communication with key account stakeholders.

IT WOULD BE GREAT IF YOU HAD:

    • Experience deploying compute and networking equipment manufacturing environments
    • Experience with enterprise manufacturing operations such as MES and SCADA platforms
    • Experience running a “Homelab” such as PiHole, Proxmox, Nextcloud, Kubernetes, etc.
    • Previous production experience with Automated Deployment (Ansible, Packer), Hypervisors (Proxmox, ESXi), Monitoring (ELK, Grafana, Zabix), Software Defined Networks (pfSense, UniFi, Aruba), OOBM
    • Knowledge of database management and migration
    • Experience communicating with users, technical leaders and management to collect requirements, describe system designs, identify risks and mitigations, and set product strategy
    • Experience comparable to being a TA for Network, or Operating Systems, or Systems Programming classes
