We are looking for an experienced product manager who is passionate about the potential for real-world evidence (RWE) to accelerate progress against cancer. This product and operations professional will play a leading role in launching and growing Flatiron K.K., working closely with our Business Development Lead, Engineering Lead, and Head of Flatiron International. We’re looking for an adaptable problem-solver who is excited by becoming a founding member in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.

Within the overall company, Flatiron Health K.K. is a small and growing team focused on transforming the use of healthcare data and improving outcomes of Japanese patients.

What You'll Do

Flatiron Health K.K. is hiring a Product & Operations Director to serve as a leader in building the Japanese roadmap and business strategy, managing the implementation and scaling of Flatiron K.K.’s initial products and platforms, supporting partnership efforts, and executing various operational projects. They will collaborate closely with cross-functional team members and stakeholders in Japan, Europe, and the US, including engineers, clinicians, business development team members, and biostatisticians.

The Product & Operations Director is expected to flexibly support the team however is needed (partnership development and management, recruiting, legal/ compliance, ad-hoc strategic projects, etc.) and will have broad exposure to the business. They will have an opportunity to step into a significant leadership role for Flatiron Japan and manage employees as the team grows.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Define the vision for Flatiron Japan products including real-world data, analytics, and software
  • Manage the build of Flatiron Japan’s data integrations (data extractions) with Japanese hospitals, real-world data processing platforms, and products
  • Create detailed technical and product roadmaps, prioritize work, and communicate trade-offs internally
  • Lead problem-solving discussion with cross-functional groups and “unblock” issues for team members
  • Lead strategic planning process and budget/ profit & loss management
  • Support pitch activity and partnership development with Japanese hospitals, technology companies, life sciences companies, and academic/ government organizations
  • Work with internal and external legal, compliance, ethics, and technical experts to define operational requirements for processing patient data and implement relevant solutions
  • Identify hiring needs and recruit new team members
  • Help build a Japan-based team and company culture as Flatiron K.K. grows.

Who You Are

You're a Product Manager with a minimum of 8 years of experience. You're excited by the prospect of working on difficult and meaningful problems each and every day. You’re a kind, passionate and collaborative problem-solver who seeks and gives candid feedback, and values the chance to make an important impact on cancer patients and society.

  • You have a bachelor’s degree in a technical field, or equivalent practical experience
  • You have 8+ years of work experience, including 5+ years of Product Management or similar experience (BizOps, Product Operations, etc.) at a technology company
  • You are a strong analytical thinker, with an ability to break down complex technical and operational problems into concrete projects and decisions
  • You have strong project management skills, with ability to keep multiple projects and processes on track in parallel
  • You have excellent written and oral communication skills for internal and external audiences
  • You are comfortable working with data, spreadsheets, slide presentations, and collaboration tools
  • You are passionate about Japanese healthcare and interested in cancer care and research
  • You are able to travel within Japan for meetings with partners and stakeholders
  • You are excited about working in a passionate, fast-paced, technology-driven culture
  • You can collaborate and easily explain scientific terms to a non-medical, highly sophisticated audience; you have superior communication skills
  • You are comfortable with ambiguity and a willingness to teach and learn
  • You are fluent in Japanese and English

Extra Credit

  • You have experience working at an early stage start-up
  • You have experience working at a global company
  • You have existing knowledge of an area relevant to Flatiron Japan’s business: oncology, outcomes research, clinical research, real-world evidence, health regulatory authority interaction
  • You have experience working with Japanese medical IT systems
  • You have technical programming skills such as SQL for database query, R for data analysis (or similar), Python
  • You have studied or worked in Europe or the United States
