Job Summary The Advanced Analytics team provides data modeling services (exploratory and predictive modeling) for all lines of business and all share service functions. Candidates should have experience conceiving and designing complex and innovative analytic models, and possess knowledge of and experience with traditional and contemporary data mining technologies, applied to both structured and unstructured data sets. Experience with handling and understanding large data sets is required. Experience with Property & Claims Insurance or claims data preferred. The candidate should be technical, with a very strong sense of the business value of each project. A team oriented individual that can operate with minimal supervision and supportive of corporate policies and procedures is required. As the Data Science Lead, candidates should have experience leading the effort to define complex solutions and managing the overall development effort of a team of individual contributors. The Lead Data Scientist is also responsible for bringing innovative ideas in analytics to business leadership. Essential Job Functions Leads the design, development and deployment of advanced models (exploratory, prediction, optimization) Leads the end-to-end model development process as the technical lead Leads the design and execution of Design of Experiments Designs, writes and tests computer programs in model building Communicates models, validation and key findings to business executives Provides management guidance for organization, strategy, technology, training and planning Mentors team members on technical approaches to analysis and modeling and the use of analytics related technology Acts as a liaison between the analytics effort and IT resources to ensure the appropriate technical environment for the work Coordinates model development with outside consultants where relevant Supports the deployment integration and maintenance for production models. Guiding the work of individual contributors on the project and managing the overall effort Design, develop and validate quantitative models (descriptive, predictive, optimization/simulation and others) built using a variety of modeling techniques Present features, predictions and segments of models in graphical, tabular and text form to a variety of end users, from non-technical to very technical Participate in team meetings, conferences, knowledge sharing and individual learning activities Physical Actions Physical Environment Education Requirements Master's or Ph.D. degree required in mathematics, statistics, computer science, engineering, operations research or other quantitative science field. Experience Requirements 10 + years as a Model coder/developer in a delivery oriented environment. 3-5 years as a leader of the data science effort for an organization. Special Skill Requirement Understanding and ability to use advanced statistical /Machine Learning concepts, including: GLMs, decision trees, ensemble modeling, clustering, SVM, etc. Expert understanding of computers and database software, statistical and modeling packages (Statistica, R, Matlab, scikit-learn, SAS), visualization and other advanced analysis tools Expert user qualifications in data management programming SQL and PL-SQL Good scripting and rapid prototyping skills, i.e. preferred fluency in at least one the following: SQL, Perl, Python, VB, Java Must be well-organized, have strong written and oral communication skills, and be able to work well within a team Extensive knowledge in model development project methodology such as CRISP-DM or other formal analytics project methodology Strong analytical mindset and creative problem - solving skills Farmers is an equal opportunity employer, committed to the strength of a diverse workforce. ]]>
