Staff Mechanical Designer - Mission Systems

Description:

This Mechanical Designer position is within the Collins Aerospace Simulation & Training Solutions (STS) business area in Sterling, VA. Collins Aerospace STS-Sterling develops, builds and modifies aircraft simulators and training systems for both military and commercial customers. Devices range in complexity from a desktop trainer to a high fidelity weapon system and full-flight training systems.

Responsibilities:

  • Works under moderate supervision to provide technical support to engineers on a variety of engineering tasks.
  • Performs basic to moderately complex technical tasks which contribute to the planning and execution of engineering projects.
  • Reviews illustration of workflow, routing, floor layouts, material handling, or machine utilization.
  • Operates, inspects and maintains test setups and equipment to detect malfunctions.
  • Collaborates with higher level support staff to confer with engineers on details and implications of test procedures and results.
  • Provides technical support to engineers on a variety of tasks.
  • Plans and executes experiments and gathers, maintains, formats, compiles, and manipulates technical data, such as laboratory test results and engineering design changes to support engineering disciplines.
  • Analyzes, maintains, compiles and formats data and design changes.
  • Produces drawings, reports and engineering documentation.
  • Performs research and engineering laboratory functions involving the layout, building, testing, troubleshooting, repairing and modification or electronic or electro-mechanical devices, assemblies, subsystems, and systems.

Required Qualifications:

  • This position requires a HS Diploma or AA/AS degree (or other 2-year post high school training) with a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience. In the absence of a HS diploma, GED or AA/AS degree, 6 years of relevant experience is required.
  • SolidWorks, AutoCAD
  • U.S. Citizenship and the ability to obtain a U.S. DOD Secret Level Security Clearance

Desired Qualifications:

  • Familiar with ASME Y14.100 Standards
  • Proficient in the Microsoft Office tool suite
